Here's something interesting we come across fairly often in historic aerial photos. The blacked out area is Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio in layer recently added, Bexar County, TX 1955. It is fully visible in more current photos (the facility is shared with the city).
Other new additions include:
Hamilton County, OH 1956
Lake Tahoe area 1940, 1969 & 1987
more eastern Los Angeles County, CA 1952, 1953 & 1954.

That was about the time Eisenhower's administration was trying to get something in the air over Soviet territory, wasn't it? We knew that if we were trying to spy on their bases, they'd sure be trying to spy on ours. Interesting how Dwight knew more than he could let on about...and everyone thought he was just playing golf.

We have a new oldest data set in our collection! This is photography of Atlantic City, NJ in 1920. Previously, the oldest data in our collection had been our 1927 imagery of Hawaii.
