2025-02-16 13:11:08 | Nells250 | I see that I am not the only person who, after years, can no longer use the website properly due to ads being blocked even when they are shut off. I have tried everything and even though someone in customer support seemed to try to help, no solution was ever found. The subscription rates are way too high for me... perhaps a small fee for people who just like to browse is in order? If that will even solve the issue. The only way I have found to use the site almost properly is my using the Edge browser. Opera, Firefox, and D.D.G. don't work anymore. |

2025-02-16 22:18:47 | pbenito | I had not used the site for several years and when I started using it again this month I encountered the same problems and limitations others reported (e.g. I could essentially not even preview anything even with the normal watermarks for free usage). What ended up working for me while using Chrome was to go to "Extensions" and disable the Duck Duck Go privacy extension I had installed. I turn it back on once I have finished using the the site, but otherwise was close to abandoning it altogether. |
2025-02-17 15:09:19 | Brett | There are several reasons why ads may not be displaying on the free version of our website beyond the use of an ad blocker. It could be due to firewall configurations, VPN usage, or privacy settings in browsers like DuckDuckGo. Ultimately, if our ads are not being seen, it means they are being deliberately blocked by the user. From our standpoint, it is frustrating to offer a free service only to see it exploited. Every time we try to improve the user experience, there are those who seek workarounds to access paid content—and we have even had to defend against attempts to steal our digital imagery. We do not want to lock everything behind a paywall, and ads have proven to be the best way to monetize users who prefer a free site. Professionals such as environmental consultants, archaeologists, and legal experts are accustomed to paying much more than what we charge for a subscription. For them, it’s a bargain. However, maintaining a free version of the site risks cannibalizing some of that business. That’s why it’s crucial to ensure that subscribing remains a valuable proposition. |
2025-04-28 10:13:26 | thoward | I am not working around free content. I am being blocked from paid content. If the "free version" is not not free, then you need to disclose this and require a login, etc to access this not really free "free version". Hire someone who can help. |
2025-04-28 10:42:24 | Brett | Thanks for reaching out! Just to clarify, if you're seeing ads, you're using the free version of the site. If you're not seeing ads and you’re not signed in with an active subscription, it likely means something is blocking our ads, which helps us keep the free version available. Let us know if you have any questions — we’re happy to help! |
2025-06-17 14:16:15 | justin.beeler | If you use Duck Duck Go, you have to go to the extension Options, and add "historicaerials.com" as an unprotected site. They fixed the pop-up screen for me. I suspect this may be true for other types of similar extensions. |
2025-06-17 15:53:54 | Jeff | Justin, Thank you for the information. I have confirmed that these directions do work on the duck duck go browser extension (in Chrome), and do allow the ads to draw. Ending the pop-up, and allowing access to the free viewer (with ads of course). This is simiar to other extensions like ABP and Malwarebytes. In those instances you can toggle off the "protection" for the historic aerials site. Which will allow the ads to draw and also avoid the ad blocker pop-up. In our experience thus far, some browsers are more difficult than others. If one is not working I would try a different one (ie firefox is not working? try chrome), just be aware of which extensions are running on the browser and that is the key to avoiding the message. |
